A Purpose Driven Life - Chapter 22

A Purpose Driven Life Chapter 22 - Transformed to be Like Christ

Chapter Overview:  It was interesting how much this cypher paralleled our small group on Sunday evening.  It was about being transformed. Rick actually mentions some of the examples and passages that we discussed.  In this chapter probably his main point was that life here on earth is all about character development - God wants to develop our character and make us more like Jesus - it's an on-going work.  People who expect life to be an easy ride once they are a Christian are mistaken.

One thing that I had considered during Sunday evening that this chapter reminded me of was about how God makes up for our weakness. He had a phrase that was kind of inspiring - 'We can't wait until we are perfect before we let God use us.' God wants to use us now no matter what - in our weakness he is strong.
Graham and  Susan showed a couple of videos at small group on Sunday. One of them was Going Through the Motions by Matthew West.  In it a fellow makes a change in his life (based on diary entries that can be read) from going through the motions to praying for someone during his day at work. It was a good reminder for me to be daily asking for gods help and guidance.  The video below is the same song - I couldn't  find the exact video from way back then

I was created to become like Christ. In what area do I need to ask for the Spirit's power to be like Christ today?  There were three things I needed to do:

  1. Let go of the old ways of acting.
  2. Change the way I think.
  3. Put on the character of Christ.
In doing these things we cooperate with the Spirit's work in our lives. And I need to remember that this is a long process and not compare myself to others.  God is more interested in building character in us than anything else.
